October 9th, 1939 a group came together to form Bethany English Evangelical Lutheran Church. For the first 10 years the group worshipped and did ministry without the place here on Broadway. For 10 years they persevered in defining themselves, raising funds, worshipping, and finding the place that eventually became theirs. It is in this space, 75 years later, that we continue to worship and, in true Lutheran fashion, continue to form and reform who we are as a worshipping community. Thousands of claimed membership of this community at one point or another (number 4253 is the most recent number entered into the book), numerous office staff, youth directors, and twelve pastors have all called this church home. Our history is rich and beautiful and our mission is not stopping any time soon. Let’s keep being church together!

Blessings,

Pastor Joseph Doegen

O God, you have promised through your Son to be with your church forever. We give you thanks for those who founded this community of believers and for the signs of your presence in our congregation. Increase in us the spirit of faith and love, and make our fellowship an example to all believers and to all nations. We pray through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.
